John, Last night, I delivered my fourth state of the state address as Governor, but only for the second time in person. Just as Minnesotans across the state are once again gathering with family and friends, it was good to be back addressing a joint legislative session at our State Capitol. The last two years have been incredibly challenging. But through it all, we worked together and, against all odds, made tremendous progress for our communities. That's why I'm proud to say once again this morning: The state of the state is strong, and Minnesota is moving forward. Our budget reserves have hit record highs, and our COVID numbers have hit record lows. Nationally, we have the fifth-lowest unemployment rate and the third-highest job growth. We reduced the price of insulin, increased education funding for students in every zip code, and passed the largest jobs bill in state history. And we did it all while cutting taxes for the middle class. With our strong economy and budget surplus, we're in the best position in state history to lower costs for Minnesotans' everyday expenses, invest in the middle class, and provide relief to those still recovering from the pandemic. Lt. Governor Flanagan and I are committed to getting the job done, but we can't do it alone. As we continue moving forward to provide an unparalleled quality of life for every Minnesotan in every zip code, we cannot afford to give in to those trying to divide us.
