Team,

I want to tell you a little bit about my grandfathers, and how their story inspired me to run for Congress here in Rhode Island's 2nd District.

My family is incredibly fortunate to be an example of the American Dream. Both of my grandfathers were sons of immigrants. They grew up poor and never graduated from college, but both were able to find good, middle-class jobs.

Grandpa Bob was a union steelworker in Worcester. Grandpa Louis was a bookkeeper at a fruit canning company in New York. Those jobs provided them the ability to start families, send their kids to college, and with the help of the GI bill, buy homes.

My own parents met in college and started a business together in Rhode Island. They built a life for me and my siblings that my grandparents never could have imagined.

This was the American Dream that was so common a generation ago – the promise that with hard work and perseverance, each generation can leave a better life for their kids than they had for themselves. But now, in our time, that American Dream of economic mobility has broken down for many families and was never afforded to others.

Today, we're seeing the cost of living rise, and people have to work harder and harder just to put food on the table. Families are worried about their future, and what it will look like for their children and grandchildren.

As proud new parents, my wife Julia and I understand that worry. We want our son Max to grow up in a country where this American Dream is possible for every family – regardless of zip code.

As Treasurer, I've worked to build a stronger and more equitable economy for all Rhode Islanders – and that's a fight I'll continue in Congress.

In Congress, I will focus on creating good jobs and lowering costs so that families can make ends meet. I'll work to lower the cost of prescription drugs, ensure every child has access to free universal pre-K and affordable childcare, make college and career technical training more affordable, and more.

Look, we can restore the American Dream, but we need to elect representatives who will fight for working families. As a congressman, that's exactly what I'll do – but first, I need your support to win a tough race.

Before my end-of-month deadline on Friday at midnight, will you chip in $5 or more to send me to Congress to help restore the American Dream for all Rhode Island families?
