Here's how we got here:
1. Tallahassee Rpublicans rejected an amendment to ban any and all conversations about sex in elementry school.
2. Republicans instead specifically target talk about LGBTQ kids in school and even offer an amendment that would have required disclosure to parents even when it was known that the parent was abusive and disclosure could put the child in danger.
3. Disney, under pressure from their employees and shareholders, issues a statement condeming the bill.
4. Florida's GOP publicly attacks Disney, an employer of 100,000 Floridians–with no notice–ending the special taxing district covering the parks and disallowing the company from being able to police the comment section of its Disney+ platform from predators, potentially putting kids in harm's way.
5. NEXT: Florida will need to raise taxes across three counties to recoup the $167M in annual revenue Disney creates by overpaying its taxes to Reedy Creek AND $1 BILLION in Disney debt will be passed along to the taxpayers of Florida. (receipts)
Make no mistake, the Florida GOP is leaning into their cancel culture agenda to settle scores instead of doing what's right for Floridians. This fight has ALWAYS been about Governor DeSantis' national fundraising as he prepares for a primary fight with Donald Trump for President in 2024–nothing more.
This latest culture war fight brewed up by the Right is another example that we need to restore normalcy and balance to our process. We cannot allow their fringe views to tear apart our state by infecting our discourse with divisiveness. WE must take a stand for civility and our American values.
