John, I don't often quote Republicans, but I had to share this. Over the past few months, a number of state courts have overturned the GOP's manipulated maps for violating state law – and the GOP is not happy about it. So they're trying to "neutralize" (AP) state supreme courts in the 2022 elections.

I can't overstate the importance of state supreme courts in protecting voters from rampant map manipulation. From Pennsylvania to North Carolina to Ohio, Republican gerrymanders have been stopped short by state court decisions that protect voters’ rights, resulting in U.S. House maps will be fairer in 2022 than they were in 2012.

So it's no wonder NBC News reported that "Republicans eye state courts as next political battlegrounds." Their tactics range from trying to stack the courts with pro-gerrymandering judges to trying to impeach justices who support fair maps. If we don't fight back, we could lose a critical line of defense against gerrymandering.
