John,
Today is the 52nd observance of Earth Day, and with it, we find ourselves at a defining moment in the fight against climate change. Let there be no doubt: time is quickly running out to reverse the long-term effects of climate change – effects that have already hit vulnerable populations and communities.
Simply put, we owe it to our kids to protect our planet for future generations. We have to reduce dangerous emissions, invest in clean and renewable energy, expand public transit, and upgrade our infrastructure in order to make the world a cleaner and more livable place. For my entire political career, I'm proud to have fought for policies that are geared toward these goals.
In the State Senate, I sponsored legislation to expand consumers’ access to community solar energy, mandate quicker reporting on hazardous spills in Virginia waterways, and broaden the powers of the Department of Environmental Quality to go after polluters. In Congress, I voted to support the Paris Climate Agreement in the face of the Trump Administration's opposition, I voted to pass President Biden's historic infrastructure bill (which upgrades our energy systems and furthers the use of electric vehicles), and I've continued to champion legislation that will help us meet our climate goals.
Earlier this month, I was honored to gain the endorsement of the National Resources Defense Council Action Fund. I'll proudly carry the banner for environmental progress in the 2022 election.
I'm going to be facing a difficult re-election. Republicans have made VA-10 a top target – and they're itching to replace me with someone who will be a rubber stamp for a pro-polluter agenda that harms the health and wellbeing of families across America.
So on this Earth Day, I'm asking for help to keep fighting for our values and our planet. Please, chip in $10 or more to my campaign →
