Dear Morris County Democrats,

I hope you are all having a good weekend. In response to a number of questions and some apparent confusion, I wanted to communicate with you directly to outline next steps for the Morris County Democratic Committee and the upcoming special election for Chair and/or other Executive Board positions.

As you know, I announced my intention to resign as Chair of MCDC effective as of an upcoming special meeting. I believe this is the right decision for me personally and for our organization going into some very tough election cycles. In accordance with our bylaws, and under my duties as Chair, I am calling a special meeting of the Morris County Democratic Committee for the week of May 9th. Official notice will be sent out this upcoming week.

I look forward to seeing a new Chair forge the next chapter for MCDC and firmly believe that we need to be united in our common mission of electing Democrats across Morris County who want to serve our communities and are committed to expanding opportunity, economic growth, affordable health care, accountability, and transparency. National headwinds and Republican gains in New Jersey last year pose a serious challenge to our progress. We must work together because no less than democracy itself is on the line. I remain committed to doing my part to ensure a seamless transition and I remain committed to working together with all members of our party to unite around our shared values.

As is tradition in Morris County and in other leadership roles, when a Chair or official resigns or there is a leadership transition, members of the leadership team offer a letter of resignation so that a new leader has the ability to assemble a team that complements their leadership strengths. In my initial letter to you on Friday, I shared that I would be resigning and expected the MCDC Executive Board to do the same. I stand by these statements.

Now is the time for unity. I remain hopeful that everyone will come together so we can continue to move forward together as a team. In fact, the purpose of my resignation and request that others resign is so we can have a fair and transparent election and work with the new Chair ahead of the upcoming primary election. The stakes this year are high and we need Morris County Democrats focused on November.

So, as to ensure that my intentions and the MCDC process are explicitly clear I offer the following summary:

-I intend on resigning effective as of the election of a new Chair at a special meeting and expect the Executive Board to do the same in keeping with tradition and professional customs.
-That Special Meeting will be scheduled for the week of May 9th.
-An official notice with the location of the Special Meeting and Agenda will be sent out this week.
-Anyone interested in running for Chair should submit their notice of intention as per our Bylaws.

On a final personal note, it has been my honor to serve as Chair of MCDC for eight years. I am humbled by the trust and confidence that you have placed in me and the entire leadership team. While we have had ups and downs, I truly believe that now is a time for change, so that our work to ensure the ideals of our party to help those in our communities can be fulfilled. None of this changes my heartfelt thanks to each of you and your commitment to Morris County. I am always available to you to answer your questions, to hear your concerns as I finish my role as Chair over the next few weeks, and to support our new leadership team at MCDC.

Sincerely,

Chairman Chip Robinson
