Dear Friend,

Human trafficking is happening every day in states across the country. Victims and survivors need our help ([link removed]) today as they work to restore their lives and work to reach their goals. The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) is committed to serving victims of crime and trafficking by ensuring they have access to much-needed services on their journey to safety and justice in their new home.

Today, at the beginning of the 2022 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which is observed from April 24-30, we reflect on the triumphs and adversities faced this past year. The Covid-19 pandemic, for one, continued to disproportionately impact our most vulnerable populations, including victims of crime, and we had to quickly adapt to this new reality. We have also seen some great achievements. In 2021, USCRI’s Trafficking Victim Assistance Program (TVAP) assisted over 2,000 victims of trafficking and provided over $3.8 million in direct support to survivors to cover housing, food, clothing, and other costs. Our staff also supported case managers with extensive training and technical assistance.

TVAP is one of the only programs available to assist foreign national survivors as they leave their trafficking situation. Our case managers assist survivors with housing, financial support, mental health services, and legal immigration relief, alongside a wide array of other services tailored to each individual’s needs and goals. USCRI works closely with these case managers by providing training, technical assistance, and other support services. In many instances, case managers have accompanied program participants for years as the survivors work to obtain legal status, bring their traffickers to justice, and move forward with the next step of their lives.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is organized each year by the Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) and the official theme this year is Rights, Access, Equity for all Victims. During this week and throughout the year, we encourage you to support ([link removed]) victims of crime and trafficking to lead lives of safety and dignity.

Thank you,

Bart Bachman
Associate Director of Trafficking Services
USCRI
