Offshore Energy Production is Crucial to America's Energy Needs, National Security
This past week, I invited six members of Congress from across the country to South Louisiana to visit an offshore platform and meet with the men and women who support our nation’s offshore energy production.
It was great to share with these Members how South Louisiana has become the hub for offshore energy development in America, with companies continuing to invest in energy projects off our coast and contributing significantly to the nation’s economy and American energy security.
The group was able to see how energy is produced in the Gulf of Mexico using advanced technology while following rigorous safety standards. As we flew to the offshore platform and over Louisiana’s coastline, I explained Louisiana’s battle with coastal erosion and how offshore energy development brings in critical dollars through revenue sharing to fund coastal restoration.
We also participated in a roundtable discussion with Port Fourchon officials and offshore oil and gas and maritime experts, allowing Members to gain valuable insight into this dynamic industry and its importance to American jobs and national security.
Offshore energy in the Gulf of Mexico supports more than 345,000 jobs across the country and contributes billions of dollars annually to the U.S. economy. Our oil and natural gas producers are absolutely critical to maintaining energy dominance in America, and Louisiana plays a vital role in ensuring our nation can be energy independent.
This year’s trip felt even more pertinent as President Biden continues to decimate American energy dominance and make us more dependent on foreign oil for our energy needs. Hardworking Americans are furious that gas prices are so high, but they also know that President Biden walked in on Day One with an agenda to kill American energy. We have the tools at our disposal to lower energy costs and make America energy dominant again. President Biden should stop his all-out assault on American energy and open up production to ease the burden on our communities.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information, please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
