Friend,

Imagine a world in which independent media is gone and the only sources of news are controlled by a handful of giant corporations.

It’s not some faraway dystopia. It’s happening now. With the rapid corporate consolidation of traditional news outlets and the internet moving increasingly under the thumb of Big Tech, this is the world we’re quickly heading toward.

Common Dreams has watched as digital news outlets all around us have laid off staff or gone out of business, and we’re facing the same stiff headwinds that they are.

Facebook and Google algorithms are steering readers away from Common Dreams, making it more difficult than ever to attract new readers. The lost traffic directly results in fewer donations, and since we don’t accept corporate ads, that loss of revenue is potentially fatal.

So as we watch independent journalism struggle, you have to wonder who will report on the abuses of giant corporations when the news itself is a giant corporate monopoly?

We’ve always relied on readers to come through in our time of need, and we need you now. Please donate whatever you can afford to support Common Dreams and meet our all-important Spring Campaign goal of $100,000.

With gratitude,

Kimberly Monaghan
