Friend, I hope you’re expecting a nice tax refund this year! But if not, it might be because of our regressive tax code, which causes regular working Americans to pick up the tab for billionaires and corporations who pay next to nothing. If you had to pay, you most likely paid more taxes than the richest people and corporations in this country. During the pandemic many Nevadans have struggled to find work and pay for necessities while the 16 billionaires in our state increased their wealth by $33.6 billion. This Tax Day (and week) we held various events to highlight just how hard it is for regular people to continue to bear the tax burden. Check out all of our activities from this week below and TAKE ACTION NOW! On Tax Day (4/11) we held a press conference with Congresswoman Dina Titus, Congressman Steven Horsford, Dawn Etcheverry President elect of NSEA, and community member Martha Vicente to speak about why it’s time that the ultra rich in this country finally pay what they owe in taxes. Both members of Congress discussed President Biden’s plan in the latest budget to tax wealth like work for the super-rich, so that programs like education and healthcare can be funded properly. You can watch the press conference here, and be sure to read our Nevada Billionaires Report that we released alongside Healthcare for America Now (HCAN) and Americans for Tax Fairness! That’s not all! On Thursday, we were joined by Margarida Jorge from HCAN, Chris Daly from the Nevada State Education Association, and Ben Challinor from Faith in Action Nevada to talk about all things taxes on our weekly Out in Front with Annette. If you missed the episode don’t worry! You can catch up and watch the whole conversation here. Help us amplify our Nevada Billionaires Report by sharing your own tweet to make sure that you voice your support for taxing billionaires. Did you struggle to pay your taxes this year? Let us know by taking our Tax Survey which lets us know how you feel about tax issues and if you’re interested in joining our storybank! Thank you for always supporting our work!
