Friend,

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida just signed a sickening near-total ban on abortion into law in his state.

It’s just the latest in a string of radical attacks on reproductive rights being waged by the GOP across the country. This year alone, nearly 90 bills have been introduced across 30 states to enact some form of an abortion ban. States like Texas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma have enacted near-total abortion bans.

The result is government control over the personal healthcare decisions of tens of millions of Americans. To be precise: government control over women. These coordinated Republican attacks are an inexcusable abuse of power, perpetrated in large part by male politicians. And we must fight back.

Democratic activists, lawmakers, and leaders across the country are leading the charge. In Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has asked her state’s Supreme Court to overturn a nearly 100-year-old law that banned abortion care before Roe v. Wade’s precedent took place. Should the ultraconservative U.S. Supreme Court roll back Roe’s protections, action from leaders like Gov. Whitmer could protect reproductive freedom in the states.

But right now, it’s up to grassroots Democrats to follow the lead of fighters like Gov. Whitmer. With the U.S. Supreme Court’s Trump-appointed justices like Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett likely to torpedo Roe v. Wade in a matter of weeks, I’m asking 1,000 supporters of reproductive rights – including you, Friend – to fight back. Will you sign on to my petition to condemn GOP attacks on reproductive rights and join Democrats across the country who are fighting back? This is an urgent moment for the right to choose, and I’m counting on you to speak out now.

In the Senate, extremist Republicans filibustered my bill to make the precedent of Roe federal law. I’m not giving up, but it’s going to take Democratic action at all levels of government to meet the urgency of this moment head-on.

Thank you for doing your part.

Dick
