The 2022 National Small Business Week Virtual Summit, ?Building a Better America Through Entrepreneurship,? kicks off on Monday, May 2.?

During National Small Business Week, SBA is also hitting the road on a national bus tour. Administrator Guzman will visit nine cities across the country and, in collaboration with the SBA?s local offices, join local elected officials to celebrate America?s 32.5 million small businesses who have played an integral role in powering our nation?s historically strong economic comeback.? The tour will take place May 2-5 and feature stops in San Francisco, California; Denver, Colorado; Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia; Columbia and Richburg, South Carolina; Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina; and Norfolk, Virginia.

Earlier this week, Administrator Guzman and Associate Administrator Mark Madrid, and U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, visited Baltimore to highlight the Community Navigator Pilot Program's positive impact on small and underserved businesses.

They were joined by the Greater Baltimore Urban League, a ?spoke? organization in the?Community Navigator Program, which is an American Rescue Plan initiative designed to help small businesses and underserved entrepreneurs overcome barriers to accessing programs needed to recover and thrive. The program provides funding to grantee organizations like the National Urban League to work with community groups, or spokes, to improve access to government resources.

The application period is now open for?T.H.R.I.V.E.?Emerging Leaders Reimagined,?a free executive-level training series intended to give ambitious small business leaders a challenging opportunity to accelerate their growth through targeted training led by motivating leaders in small business development.?

The program allows participants to work with a network of experienced subject matter experts in core business topics. The new format also promotes an eco-system of business connections among business peers, government leaders, and the financial community.?

SBA is seeking nominations for the Tibbetts Awards now through May 4. This year?s awards will honor the 40th anniversary of the Small Business Innovation Research program being signed into law.

The Tibbetts Awards are presented to small businesses and organizations that are judged to exemplify the spirit and mission of America?s Seed Fund, the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs.

The awards are named for Roland Tibbetts, the National Science Foundation program manager who is acknowledged as the founder of the Small Business Innovation Research program. Nominate a business or organization today!

Ascent: elevate your business

?

This week, SBA launched two new?educational modules for Ascent, a digital training platform that helps?women entrepreneurs take their businesses to the next level. One?module explores the value of business partnerships, why they matter, and how they drive business growth and has four components, including the value of business partnerships, opportunities, and strategic growth.

The other module helps position small businesses for growth by building and refining leadership skills and has 11 components designed to build confidence and improve decision management and leadership style techniques.

Get Inspired: Business Owner Helps New Orleans Recover?

After Hurricane Ida hit New Orleans last year, millions were without power.?The Howlin Wolf owner Howie Kaplan and his staff helped their neighbors by preparing free hot food for all.

Word spread quickly and lines grew. Other local restaurant owners heard about the effort and donated more food. Area non-profits called Kaplan to offer additional support. Kaplan and his staff quickly mobilized and fed approximately 10,000 people.

Because of his selfless and heroic efforts, Kaplan won the National Small Business Week Phoenix Award for Outstanding Contributions to Disaster Recovery by a Volunteer.
