Hi,
Earth Day is far from over.
As the sun sets on April 22nd, we
know that we have our work cut out for us. Every year, Earth Day
inspires new energy in the environmental movement and attracts
millions more to the cause — but we need to keep that momentum
going.
This is the year we make every day Earth Day. Will you help us make this a reality by
becoming a sustaining member with an annual gift?
Businesses. Governments.
Individuals. This year’s Earth Day invites everyone to Invest In Our
Planet, in every way we can, to survive the effects of climate change
and protect our home. A partnership for the Earth.
We know that our movement needs more than talk — we need
action. Action from
businesses to commit to sustainable practices and innovation, from
governments to set meaningful environmental legislation and
incentives, and from the grassroots to demand our leaders do what they
promised.
EARTHDAY.ORG is leading the charge
in these campaigns and more with advocacy, mobilization, and
education. Our mission is to drive the world’s largest environmental
movement to local action that has global impact.
Just a few examples from our
campaigns:
-
We’ve planted tens of millions of
trees through The Canopy Project, selecting areas with an urgency to protect
biodiversity from threats of climate change or environmental
disasters, and towards the development of the local community. We’ve
also secured additional
large-scale reforestation commitments from international Forest
Services or Interior Departments in connection with fulfilling their
Paris Agreement Nationally Determined Commitments.
-
Our flagship volunteer program,
The Great Global Cleanup, attracts millions of people to the
environmental movement (and cleans up millions of pounds of trash)
through what is often the first action many take on the road to
activism.
-
We've also engaged millions in our
End Plastics Pollution campaign, successfully advocating around
the Global Plastic Treaty (the most significant multilateral
environmental deal since the Paris Agreement), pressing elected
officials in support of legislation like the Break Free From Plastics
Act, and creating toolkits, fact sheets, advocacy packets, and Earth
Day Live broadcasts on the topics.
-
We continue to drive the conversation
around Climate and Environmental Literacy globally all year long. Our climate literacy campaign, now embraced
by over 450 million people, teachers, trade unions, faith groups, and
economists, has made great strides, achieving one of the few
agreements at the Glasgow COP while more and more countries are slowly
adopting climate education as a key component to building their own
green economies.
-
Our
Biodiversity campaign had a
major recent success when a federal court restored protections for
gray wolves under the Endangered Species Act after they were removed
by the Trump administration in 2020. EARTHDAY.ORG, in partnership
with several other groups, filed an amicus brief which convinced the
courts that removal of wolves from the ESA-protected list was an
illegal maneuver that caused an urgent threat to their survival across
their historical range.
-
Through our Fashion for
the Earth program, we have
advocated for and supported legislation and global agreements on
fashion industry transparency and sustainability, and spread awareness
of the waste management issue systemic to fast fashion.
-
And we continue to support many
local communities most at risk around the globe, such as our training
program to build efficient cookstoves for the rural communities in the
Sunderbans, reducing the exposure of people — specifically women and
children — to indoor pollution due to cooking on traditional
cookstoves.
From reforestation to cleanups to
driving awareness, the Earth Day movement grows every year. But we
can’t do this without your ongoing support. It’s going to all of us,
all in. We can do this, together!
Help us fight for our future by becoming a
member today.
For tomorrow,
Kathleen Rogers
