One of our alums, Tony Valdovinos, is the subject of an off-Broadway musical opening May 1st! "¡Americano!," co-produced by our founder, Sayu Bhojwani, tells Tony's story as a Dreamer, activist, and the first undocumented immigrant to ever work at Phoenix City Hall. ¡Americano! aims to show how Valdovinos channeled his anger into activism, and to restart conversations about the Dreamers.

This Earth Day, we’re reflecting on the fact that weather-related events displace roughly 30 million people each year and how, in our own country, communities of color and low-income households are bearing the brunt of the effects of the climate crisis. These communities, for example, are more likely to live in areas with heavy pollution and become ill or die of environmental causes.

This has to change. Our leaders must listen to the voices of immigrants, communities of color, Indigenous people, and others—those who have solutions to the problems—and center those communities within climate conversations. A healthy democracy is essential to a healthy climate.

The CDC's announcement that it will end the illegal and inhumane Title 42 policy by May 23 was a hard-fought win to restore the human and legal right to seek asylum at our borders.

But now, lawmakers are attempting to override the CDC and the Biden administration by passing legislation in Congress that would mandate the continuation of Title 42. We can't let this happen.

Take action today: Tell Congress to reject the anti-immigrant Title 42 policy.

From school boards and city councils all the way to Congress, the last several years have underscored the need for elected leaders who understand our experiences, our communities, and our vision for an inclusive democracy.

If you’re ready to step into your power and run for office, we want you to take one of our upcoming trainings in May and June: Ready to Lead: Midwest and Ready to Lead: Colorado!

At these trainings, you'll learn how to share your powerful, authentic New American story, fundraise, and organize our communities to get out the vote. But most importantly, you'll join a network of other bold New American leaders who are ready to change the face of leadership and create a democracy that works for and represents all of us.

So what do you say? Will we see you there? Apply for Ready to Lead: Midwest by Monday, April 25th at 11:59 p.m. ET (that's just a few days away!!) or Ready to Lead: Colorado by Monday, May 9th (or recommend someone you think would be a good fit)!

Help fight systemic white supremacy by supporting our mission to get more women, immigrants, and underrepresented Americans on the ballot and into power.
