Dear People For Supporter,
You know what’s at stake if the Far Right wins control of Congress this November... because they’re telling – and showing – us exactly what they’ll do with their majorities!
Their agenda is as extreme, bigoted, and antithetical to the American Way as ever. It’s truly dangerous. But their level of overreach could be the very thing that saves this election IF we can effectively tell the story to voters of what their agenda will mean for the rights and lives of everyday Americans.
People For is uniquely positioned to tell that story. And to mobilize voters against the Far Right’s authoritarian extremism. But we can’t afford to wait – at all – or before we know it, it will be too late.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, who would likely take over as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, suggested a complete halt to all judicial confirmations – even if another Supreme Court vacancy occurs. He said that now-confirmed Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson would not even have gotten a HEARING.
Sen. Rick Scott, head of his party’s Senate political committee, put forward an agenda that includes “sunsetting” Social Security, Medicare, and all existing federal legislation – letting vital programs, including the social safety net, die. The plan also raises taxes on low-income and middle-class individuals (NOT on the wealthy or corporations) and dangerously promotes theocracy.
Far-right governors and state legislatures are showing us exactly what the Far Right does when in power, particularly in their attacks on LGBTQ+ people with “Don’t Say Gay” bills and their hateful targeting of trans youth – a move that “analysts say... is designed to provoke ‘gender grievance’ among voters.”[1]
And they’re waging an all-out assault on the freedom to learn, with the most recent shocking move coming in Florida with the banning of 54 MATH BOOKS based on manufactured outrage over so-called ‘indoctrination,’ ‘critical race theory,’ and ‘wokeism.’
We’re waging tailored campaigns on these fronts – to protect the freedom to learn, defend the marginalized communities being viciously scapegoated by the increasingly fascist Far Right, and more. And we’re building a major election-year effort to increase voter turnout.
The only way to ensure the survival of our cherished rights and the American Way is to keep fighting.
