We must do more to protect our one and only planet.

Happy Earth Day, John!

Earth Day is one of my favorite holidays. In 1970, I participated in our country’s first Earth Day while I was serving as a young naval flight officer in California. I joined tens of thousands of people to celebrate our planet and consider how we could best protect it for our children and our grandchildren.

We’ve come a long way since then. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made this year to address climate change and transition to a clean-energy economy. When President Biden signed the bipartisan infrastructure deal into law, he put us on a path to climate-resilient infrastructure, more electric buses and electric vehicle charging stations, energy-efficient homes, lower energy costs, and clean water for all.

But as we continue to witness the effects of climate change -- increasingly frequent extreme weather events, increasing emissions, and rising sea levels -- we must remain committed to doing more to address this crisis.

We must treat every day as Earth Day, and we must stand in commitment to protecting our one and only planet. Will you join me, John?

Keep fighting the good fight,

Tom

P.S. In celebration of Earth Day, I created a Spotify playlist of my favorite songs about the beauty of our planet that you can listen to here. And below, I’ve included a couple of photos of my favorite places -- Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge and Christina River Watershed -- that remind me of what we’re fighting for.
