Happy Earth Day, John! Earth Day is one of my favorite holidays. In 1970, I participated in our country’s first Earth Day while I was serving as a young naval flight officer in California. I joined tens of thousands of people to celebrate our planet and consider how we could best protect it for our children and our grandchildren. We’ve come a long way since then. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made this year to address climate change and transition to a clean-energy economy. When President Biden signed the bipartisan infrastructure deal into law, he put us on a path to climate-resilient infrastructure, more electric buses and electric vehicle charging stations, energy-efficient homes, lower energy costs, and clean water for all. But as we continue to witness the effects of climate change -- increasingly frequent extreme weather events, increasing emissions, and rising sea levels -- we must remain committed to doing more to address this crisis.
Keep fighting the good fight, Tom P.S. In celebration of Earth Day, I created a Spotify playlist of my favorite songs about the beauty of our planet that you can listen to here. And below, I’ve included a couple of photos of my favorite places -- Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge and Christina River Watershed -- that remind me of what we’re fighting for.
