As USA Today reports, “Rep. Matt Krause, R-Fort Worth, chair of the House Committee on General Investigating, has asked state Attorney General Ken Paxton for a legal opinion on 'whether the federal government has failed to uphold its obligations to protect Texas from invasion under article IV section 4 of the United States Constitution, and whether Texas has the sovereign power to defend itself from invasion.'"
The word "invasion" here is important -- by declaring the crisis an invasion, Texas has more authority to combat it. Article IV of the U.S. Constitution states:
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion."
The crisis at the border not only impacts Texans along the border but also puts our Tarrant County communities at risk and the federal government has been derelict in its duty to protect our state from it.
Last month alone, over 221,000 migrants were caught crossing the border illegally, the highest it's been in over two decades.
With Title 42 set to expire, the flood of human and drug trafficking will only get worse, spurred on by the Biden Administration's refusal to enforce our laws.
It's time for bold leadership and clear action. We cannot afford to allow this lawlessness to continue. It undermines the fabric of our society and our country.
That's why we need Faithful Conservative Fighters in office as lawmakers and law enforcement. We need leaders who won't beat around the bush, but speak up with clarity and demanding justice.
When I'm Criminal District Attorney in Tarrant County, I will be doing just that!
For Texas,
Matt Krause
Conservative Republican for Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney
