Imagine the sense of relief our NATO allies must feel knowing President Biden is in office right now instead of his predecessor. I know the United States military issues a collective sigh of relief.
Donald Trump proposed withdrawing from NATO and attacked our very democracy. He openly stated that he believed Putin over our intelligence agencies. In Trump, Putin found a U.S. president who could stir up more anti-American sentiment than the Kremlin could ever hope to foment.
As Vladimir Putin began invading Ukraine, Donald Trump called him “genius,” “savvy,” and “smart.” There is nothing “genius” about Putin; he is a dictator. And Trump doesn’t understand why America won’t let him be a Putin-wannabe.
My opponent Chuck Grassley stood by Donald Trump through it all. Grassley continues to peddle the Big Lie even now – even adding fuel to the bizarre belief that the FBI was somehow involved in instigating the January 6th insurrection.
When I’m elected and Chuck Grassley is forcibly retired this November, I will serve with the dignity, demeanor, level-headedness, and progressive pragmatism of the most senior military person ever-elected to the United States Senate. For me, it is a continuation of long service to the nation. My number one job: Protect our democracy.
