New Jersey is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. We’re one of the fastest-warming states in the country and have 130 miles of coastline. New Jerseyans have firsthand experience with the devastation of increasingly frequent extreme weather events and superstorms.
Climate is a top priority for me in Congress. As Chair of the House Science, Space, and Technology’s Environment Subcommittee, I’m leading efforts to clean up and preserve our environment and invest in a clean-energy future:
PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT: I passed legislation to protect and preserve our public lands, and I secured funding to clean up our local natural resources, including addressing harmful algal blooms in North Jersey that contaminate our waterways and hamper our local economy. And with the bipartisan infrastructure bill, we’re replacing old lead pipes to make sure everyone has access to clean drinking water.
CLIMATE RESILIENCE: The infrastructure bill also takes steps to make our infrastructure more resilient in the face of climate change and extreme weather events while creating millions of good, green jobs.
CLEAN ENERGY: I’m committed to making New Jersey a leader in clean energy by expanding offshore wind power, investing in electric vehicle infrastructure, and replacing old diesel school buses with new zero-emission buses in towns across New Jersey. This is how we can reach our climate goals, strengthen our power grid, and reduce our reliance on foreign energy sources.
There’s still more to be done and I intend to keep fighting for commonsense solutions to address climate change and protect our environment.
The fight against climate change is going to take all of us, and I’m so glad to have you on board. We need to get more people involved -- will you help us tell folks on social media about our efforts to tackle climate change?
Thank you for all you do,
Mikie
