Hi team,
What an incredible week it’s been in Mississippi so far — finally meeting with Groundwork Grantees in person, connecting with organizers who’ve been doing the work for decades, and visiting historic civil rights monuments.
Yesterday was particularly meaningful for me. We spent all day driving through the Mississippi Delta, from Greenville to Ruleville to Mound Bayou and all the way up to Marks. Many of you know my grandfather took a historic trip to the Delta back in 1968, where he witnessed the dehumanizing impact of Jim Crow's economic, social, and political oppression. It changed him forever. Decades later the work continues, and to be able to visit many of the same places today was an experience I won’t soon forget. Special thanks to my former colleague, Congressman Bennie Thompson, and Jaribu Hill, Executive Director of the Mississippi Workers’ Center (a Groundwork Grantee!) for traveling with me through this remarkable region.
And I couldn’t ask for a better tour guide than Charles! He’s kept me full of civil rights history, some serious Mississippi political facts, and a steady stream of barbeque.

Here's a pic I took with Senator Robert Jackson (far left) alongside the head of MS Workers' Center, Jaribu Hill. Sen. Jackson is the head of our new grantee, Quitman County Development Organization, and you may know Jaribu from our first round of grantees!
If you’re able, please consider contributing $15 to Groundwork Project today, so we can continue this meaningful work. [[link removed]]
Sincerely,
Joe
