To make the world a better place and to show compassion in action, Muslim Women's Coalition (MWC) DC has been working to demonstrate in their community about the beauty of Islam. "Service to mankind is service to God" is the MWC motto and with love, hope, and peace its guiding principles.
MWC members have for 20 years embraced the community (both Muslims and non-Muslims) to uplift their self-esteem especially during the holy month of Ramadan, which is the month of fasting and giving. Through MWC Ramadan Basket/Gift card Project, MWC has since contributed hundreds of large laundry baskets filled with basic need items, and during the pandemic, donated grocery gift cards.
This year, MWC aims to serve 139 families in different safe houses, shelters, and areas that are declared "food deserts." Additionally, they hope to help the Afghan refugees in Virginia. "It has been our honor to serve the community at Doorways!" says Uzma Farooq, Director of MWC's Greater Washington DC Office.
