Happy Earth Day, friend!

In these busy times, we rarely have time to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us every day, from the wide prairies to the rolling hills, but at the rate Iowa is going, there isn’t much time left.

The environment around us needs some work. The Raccoon River is among the most polluted rivers in the nation, we have had two derechos in two years, and we’re losing the precious topsoil that we use to feed the world daily.

But Iowans have never been afraid of a little hard work. We know that being good stewards of the land today means a brighter, more vibrant future for our children and grandchildren.

So let’s do something about it, friend.

Every one of us can spend a little time improving our corner of the state, cleaning up trash along roadways, planting a few trees in our neighborhoods, and teaching our children to honor and respect our environment.

Keeping our planet clean is a community responsibility. Here's a list of actions you can take today:

  • Organize a clean-up in your neighborhood.
  • Use reusable water bottles, grocery bags and utensils
  • Start a garden and cook an extra meal at home a week
  • Call your legislator and ask them to support bold, decisive action to combat climate change.

As a state, we need to set up the next generation the best we can. It’ll be a lot of work, but the sooner we get started, the easier that work will be.

I’m proud to be in this work alongside fellow Iowa Democrats, like you. When we stand together, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.

Let’s show our neighbors that Iowa Dems are on their side and at their side.
