Dear John,

Happy Earth Day 2022! Some Earth Day snow that fell overnight - snow makes me feel hopeful.

We have come such a long way since Earth Day 2019, the day we announced our campaign for Congress for CA-08. The ensuing years have been tough times for sure, but there is reason for hope. Three years ago, it was hard to get people to pay attention to the climate crisis. Well, everyone is paying attention now. Yes, we must pass legislation like the $555 billion for climate change that was designated in Build Back Better. But three years ago, Climate Changemakers ([link removed]) did not exist. Now, they are leading amazing volunteers in weekly hours of action, making real policy impacts. Join us for an hour of action ([link removed]) . I’m there every Thursday at 5 pm PT. You will feel so empowered, so prepared to push your elected officials into action.

In my last email, I talked about how redistricting created our new Sierra Nevada Congressional district, CA-03. A few people asked if I am running for the new district. I am not - because Dr. Kermit Jones ([link removed]) has been running for the new Sierra district for more than a year. Dr. Jones is amazing and I want as many people as possible to support him! He is coming to the Eastern Sierra May 21. You can meet him at an event at my home, or you can also support him here: [link removed]

Finally, I want to share a project that is very close to my heart. A coalition of volunteer organizers has created the NoHotCreekMine group to stop a potential open-pit cyanide heap leach mine just outside of Mammoth Lakes.

Hot Creek is a wildland area where there is a natural geothermal hot spring-fed river that has ancestral connections to the local indigenous community and is one of the most beloved fly fisheries in the U.S. I’d be so grateful if you would go to www.NoHotCreekMine.com ([link removed]) and sign up for our newsletter. We need public comment because this mine will be on Federal land- so it’s great to be able to get in touch when we need you.

Gratefully,

Chris
