Happy Earth Day, folks.
When I step outside right here in Michigan, I’m overwhelmed by how much nature has to offer us. From the shores of our four Great Lakes to Pictured Rocks and everywhere in between, there's only one state in the country where you can get all of this in one place.
That’s all the more reason that we must do everything we can to protect it for future generations. But climate change is already threatening our landscapes and way of life.
Here in Michigan, erosion and flooding is harming our lakeshore and global warming is harming the diverse ecosystems we have across the state.
We have a climate crisis on our hands and we’re not doing enough to stop it.
That’s why I recently reintroduced the PROTECT Act to the House – which requires the EPA to add PFAS to the list of hazardous air pollutants. It’s why I also founded the Congressional Plastic Solutions Task Force to reduce waste.
Meanwhile, Republicans will block any legislation that takes bold action to protect the environment because special interests are lining their pockets.
Climate change is an urgent problem that we have to fight together. If you believe we need to reduce emissions and protect the Earth – today and every day – will you add your name to our petition?
Let’s do everything we can to protect this ethereal place we call home.
