Dear Friend,
Launched in 2015, New York Communities Organizing Fund's 2,400 square foot garden in the heart of Hempstead, NY -- one of the lowest income communities on Long Island -- provides fresh produce for 200 food insecure families each year.
In the last seven years, the garden has worked with a variety of community-based organizations to distribute food and engage local residents. Through hands-on instruction during the growing season, adult volunteers also teach K-12 youth about gardening techniques, varieties of plants, and healthy nutrition.

Garden volunteers distribute fruits, vegetables, and herbs harvested from the garden in a number of ways: we send produce home with families who attend gardening workshops, deliver to homebound seniors and other vulnerable households, and donate the rest to local food pantries.
This is just one of the ways we give back to our Earth and invest in our collective future. And we couldn’t do this work without you.
We hope you will come celebrate with us on May 26th!
In solidarity,
Lucas Sanchez
Deputy Director
