A judge handed the CDC its head regarding the mask mandate.  It was stupid to begin with – a political stunt – since airlines were already requiring them when the CDC came along and did so.  It was a power grab and guess what?  The judge said you do not have that power.  Given how many agencies made power grabs of various sorts, some not so publicly obvious, I wonder if we’ll ever get this mess sorted out.

Relentless Progressivism

William Barr’s memoir “One Damn Thing after Another” remains a fascinating book.  I rarely find such memoirs to be so engrossing, but this one is a page turner.  It is just the right mix of stories from his service and statements of his political philosophy.  He does not merely try to justify himself, but to explain why he does what he does on a legal and philosophical level.  He is deadly smart, and the book is essentially an argumentative armory for any serious conservative.

The World Built Around Easter

Hard not to think about my visit to the Holy Lands in 2011 on Easter.  One of the most stunning observations I made while visiting the Holy Sepulcher was the international flavor of the place.  I saw people from all over the world, quite literally.  There were various levels of devotion and forms of practice, but the world was represented.  And so many people lined up to see an empty tomb.  That is to say to see nothing, but such a significant nothing.

Friday, the host replayed an interview with Archbishop Chaput in which the archbishop commented that the history is testament to the truth and reality of Easter.  That set me thinking.
