Indivisibles,

We know you’re getting ready to take on Congress during this fast approaching, month-long August recess so we’ll cut to the chase: this message is about impeachment, immigration, and the next round of presidential debates.

On this Wednesday, July 24, Special Counsel Mueller will testify publicly to both the House Judiciary and House Intelligence Committees. And while his appearance will likely trigger another round of media coverage about whether House Democrats should launch an impeachment inquiry, but let’s be real: Indivisibles have known for months that only an impeachment inquiry will uncover Trump’s offenses. If you'd like to brush yourself, you can read our resource here.

On that same day, the House Appropriations Committee will also be holding important oversight hearings this week, examining two key agencies: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

And with the September 30 deadline to fund the government fast approaching, including the ICE and CBP, it’s time Congress takes seriously its responsibility to repair the damage Trump’s deportation machine has caused by bringing abuses committed by ICE and CBP to light -- and then doing something about it by working to #DefundHate by cutting funding to those agencies and investing it instead in humanitarian programs.

Finally, remember that even while Congress is home, the race to replace Trump in 2020 will keep heating up! The next presidential debates are next week, July 30 and 31 so don’t forget to opt-in to our exclusive Indivisible Focus Group by texting DEBATES to 977-79, and register your debate watch party here.

Now let’s get to it.

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

  1. Tell your Member of Congress (MoC) to start an impeachment inquiry into Trump. We shouldn’t need to hear from Robert Mueller again to know that House Democrats should launch an impeachment inquiry to get to the bottom of Trump’s corruption and cruelty. Call your MoC and tell them to support H. Res. 257 to open an impeachment inquiry into Trump in the House Judiciary Committee.
  2. Demand that your member of Congress Defund Hate and dismantle Trump’s deportation machine. The foundation of Trump’s seemingly daily atrocities against immigrants -- whether it’s his concentration camps, raids, or other abuses -- is the massive amount of funding that Congress appropriates every year for ICE and CBP. We need House Democrats to hold strong and cut funding to those agencies so that Trump (and future presidents) can’t use this deportation machine to terrorize immigrant families and communities.
  3. Opt-in to our exclusive Indivisible Focus Group by texting DEBATES to 977-79. We want to capture the Indivisible movement’s take on the debates as soon as they’re over -- which means we’ll need an exclusive focus group that we’ll text right after each debate ends (11pm ET) and ask you how you feel.
  4. Register your presidential debate watch party July 30-31. Help make sure that our movement puts our IndivisiStamp on the next debates by planning your local watch parties right now.
  5. Sign up for the August National Call on Thursday, August 1. All group leaders, group members, and other Indivisible activists are welcome.

 2020 and you.

This week, we’re focused on how Democrats are fighting back against Trump’s racism and holding him accountable. We’re also looking forward to next week’s primary debates in Detroit, where candidates will face off for the second time this summer in CNN’s two-night event.

  • 2020 Democrats called out Trump for his disgusting attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar and the rest of the Squad. Kamala Harris probably put it best, tweeting, “It’s vile. It’s cowardly. It’s xenophobic. It’s racist.” While we need our candidates to consistently fight back against the President’s incredible displays of racism, we also need them to stand strong on holding him accountable now, and that means supporting impeachment proceedings in the House. Check here to see where the candidates stand, and keep pushing for all 2020 candidates to support impeachment.
  • The July debate lineup has been determined. Next week, we’ll be seeing 20 Democratic candidates gather in Detroit to debate in two-night event on CNN. Last month, Indivisibles voted Warren and Harris as their favorites of the two nights. Will they remain on top this time around? Keep an eye out for invites to participate in our post-debate surveys to let us know your thoughts on who impressed you the most each night of the debates!

 Stickers!

We’re in the midst of rolling out some super ambitious plans and tools, and the hard truth is that many of these things can’t be done for cheap -- not if we want to do them right. They’ll require sustained support over weeks and months to succeed. And one of the best ways for us to make those plans is to know that Indivisibles like you have our backs with monthly donations.

We’re hoping you’re as all in as we are, so for a limited time only, we’re excited to offer Indivisible stickers to everyone who makes a monthly donation of any amount on this page:

Can we send you an Indivisible sticker? Just start a monthly donation of any amount (our average monthly gift is about $15) here and we’ll send you a free thank-you sticker!

 IndivisWin of the Week

Groups from across Kentucky got together this weekend to train and strategize as they get ready to turn Kentucky blue and #DitchMitch!

We know it’s the dog days of summer, but recess has always been when Indivisibles prove that we have bite to go with our bark. Make sure that while your MoCs are home you’re keeping the pressure up to make your voice heard on the issues that matter to you, whether it’s impeachment, immigration, or something else.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
