SUE ALLEN NAMED WILD SALMON CENTER'S NEW VICE PRESIDENT FOR CONSERVATION
Through two decades of public service work in Oregon, Sue Allen grew a powerful web of friendships from the Speaker and Senate President’s office to the wharves of coastal fishing towns. Along the way, she led the charge to establish Oregon’s first network of marine reserves. We're thrilled to announce that as of this month, she brings that rich experience to her new role as WSC's next Vice President for Conservation.

A $1.5 MILLION WIN FOR WASHINGTON WILD FISH
This month, federal infrastructure funds began flowing to Pacific salmon strongholds, as the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announced the first of five years of awards from its $200 million National Fish Passage Program. Seven of the 40 funded projects directly benefit Pacific Northwest salmon strongholds; three are Washington Coast projects submitted by WSC and our Cold Water Connection campaign partners. According to WSC Government Affairs Director Jess Helsley, this could be the first of several rounds of infrastructure bill funding for fish barrier projects in Oregon and Washington.

ACTION ALERT: HELP US SECURE LEGACY PROTECTIONS FOR THE TILLAMOOK RAINFOREST
We need your help to secure strong protections for the Tillamook Rainforest! Federal wildlife agencies have opened a public comment period through June 1st on a plan to protect half of the Tillamook (250,000 acres) for 70 years. Unfortunately, a small but vocal alliance wants to heavily log 116,000 acres of proposed conservation areas, jeopardizing endangered salmon and other wildlife. Can you tell decision makers that you support a balanced management plan: one that protects wildlife, recreational opportunities, and clean air and water for generations to come?

CORPORATE PROFILE: BAMBOO PROFILE
For 14 years, Portland-based Bamboo Sushi has aimed to be a “restaurant of purpose” —to enrich the communities it serves in nine locations across four U.S. states, while reducing its carbon footprint. This sense of purpose aligns well with Wild Salmon Center's mission. In April, Bamboo Sushi joined WSC as a new Corporate Partner as part of its annual 1 Percent for the Planet pledge. (Sushi sidebar: If you're near a Bamboo location this Friday, you can drive this gift even higher, while dining out in style, as Bamboo additionally donates part of its 2022 Earth Day sales to WSC as part of that pledge.)

THE ELLIOTT STATE FOREST IS NOW PROTECTED FOREVER
This recent candid of Oregon Governor Kate Brown and WSC Oregon Policy Director Bob Van Dyk mean s its official! Oregon’s oldest state forest is now permanently protected as a sanctuary for science, and finally unshackled from the statutes that long required it generate timber revenue for schools. As the Elliott State Research Forest, these forestlands will now be managed by Oregon State University, generating forestry, climate, and ecology research with global relevance.
