Former Vice President Joe Biden apologized over the weekend for his past comments touting his work in the Senate with segregationist lawmakers, in an effort to end a story that has hurt his campaign for several weeks in a row. Biden made the apology during a campaign stop in South Carolina, where black voters play a key role in the Democratic presidential primary.

But Biden's apology comes as some of his top rivals are surging in the polls and in fundraising. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris reported strong second-quarter fundraising figures, in part thanks to their debate performances in late June in Miami.

It'll be a busy week in politics, as the 2020 Democrats continue jockeying for support in the early stages of the race. Tamara Keith of NPR and Amy Walter of the Cook Political Report are on hand to break down the news. It's Politics Monday: Their expert analysis is one click away!
