Putin ordered Russian forces on Thursday to blockade the steel plant in Mariupol where Ukrainian troops were holding out rather than storm it, claiming a victory in the strategic southeastern port on a day when President Biden announced an additional $800 million in military aid to Ukraine, as the NYT reports. |
CDC Nationwide Alert on Hepatitis Cases in Children
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a nationwide health alert Thursday about an unusual cluster of serious hepatitis cases in young children for which the cause or causes is not known, as the Washington Post reports.

Fed Chair Signals Half-Point Raise
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell signaled the central bank was likely to raise interest rates by a half percentage point at its meeting next month and indicated similar rate rises could be warranted after that, as the WSJ reports.
