Hello,
Tomorrow is Earth Day, and I wanted to send you an early message about what this holiday means to me, our state, and our campaign.
I like to take an extra minute on Earth Day to appreciate Vermont’s natural beauty. I can walk out my front door and go on a hike (or cross country ski in the winter, but I’m hopeful we’re done with the snow for now). It’s a true wonder of our state, and I’m thankful for it every day.
Earth Day also reminds us of the importance of a Green New Deal, and why we need to get it passed and onto President Biden’s desk immediately. Vermonters and all Americans rely on a healthy environment, and if we’re going to ensure future generations have the same access to the great outdoors, we must act now.
We can confront climate change and create millions of good-paying jobs at the same time. I’m an original cosponsor of the Green New Deal—now we must work together to get it done.
It’s easy to be frustrated by the state of our environment. But there’s good news: We’ve led the way and innovated solutions to tackle some of our most troubling environmental challenges in the past, and we can do it again.
Unfortunately, even though the stakes are so high, so many of my Republican colleagues are either avoiding the issue or denying it exists altogether. But we don’t have time to waste—we must act now if we’re going to protect the planet for generations to come.
Thanks for taking action,
Peter
