Hi John,

Tomorrow is National Day of Silence, a day when thousands of students across the country will take a vow of silence to highlight the challenges that LGBTQ+ students face every single day.

As young people look to places where they can build their professional lives, we want them to know that here in Chicago, you can reach your highest potential WITHOUT sacrificing who you are. That's why community and business leaders recently bought full-page ads in Florida, Texas, and Arizona to promote a single message: ALL are welcome in Chicago.

Across the country, Republicans are pushing legislative actions to regulate what students can or cannot read, what they can or cannot learn, and who they can or cannot be.

As mayor, Lori E. Lightfoot is determined to make Chicago as welcoming and inclusive as possible. That's why she created the LGBTQ+ Advisory Council, expanded the flexible housing pool to include LGBTQ+ youth, and helped revise Chicago Police Department policies to ensure more positive interactions with non-binary, intersex, and transgender individuals.

We hope that you will join Mayor Lightfoot and her commitment to the safety and well-being of all LGBTQ students and their families.

Thank you,

—  Team Lightfoot
