Dear Judicial Watch Member,
Great news…Judicial Watch is on a
roll!
On March 25th, a Maryland court ruled in favor of Judicial
Watch’s challenge to Maryland’s congressional redistricting
plan. In its ruling the court permanently barred the
“extreme” plan created by the Democratic-controlled Maryland
legislature.
Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit on behalf of 12 registered Maryland
voters who object to Maryland’s 2021 congressional redistricting plan
on the grounds that it is a partisan gerrymander that diminishes their
rights to participate in free, fair elections for the U.S. Congress on an
equal basis with other Maryland voters, in violation of the Maryland
Constitution.
The court agreed and threw out the plan. In response, the Maryland
legislature passed and the Maryland governor signed into law a new, more
reasonable plan that better respects the rights of ALL voters.
This key Judicial Watch court victory against abusive partisan
gerrymandering in Maryland could set a national precedent!
And just one week later, on April 1st, a California court
ruled unconstitutional the state’s racial, ethnic, and LGBT quota for
corporate boards of directors. The court granted Judicial Watch’s
motion for summary judgment in its taxpayer lawsuit asking the court
to declare the quota scheme unconstitutional under California’s
constitution.
The lawsuit was filed by Judicial Watch on behalf of three California
taxpayers to prevent California from enforcing Assembly Bill 979. The bill
requires that boards of directors of California-based, publicly held
domestic or foreign corporations satisfy a racial, ethnic and LGBT
quota.
This historic California court decision declared unconstitutional
one of the most blatant attacks in the modern era on constitutional
prohibitions against discrimination. In its ruling, the court upheld the
core American value of equal protection under the law.
At Judicial Watch, we work hard every day through the legal
system…and as you can tell, we deliver real results!
We are tenacious, and we dig in for the long haul. To do that, we
