Friend,

Our community has come a long way over the years and we are proud to recognize the Arab American leaders who have paved the way for young people in all industries and who make positive change in this country. To continue our celebration this month, I am happy to feature Reema Dodin [[link removed]] , a career public servant who was the first Arab American appointed by the Biden Administration to serve at the White House.

We hope you will read more about her work and accomplishments and be on the lookout for our final highlight next week!

A lifetime of public service led to Reema Dodin’s selection by President Biden to serve as the White House Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director for Legislative Affairs. With her appointment in November 2020, Reema became the first Arab American appointed to the Biden Administration and the highest-ranking woman of Palestinian descent to ever serve at the White House.

For anyone that has known Reema or worked with her, her trajectory from intern to senior White House staffer is not at all surprising. Reema got her start as an intern for Senator Dick Durban in his district office while a student at the University of Illinois College of Law. She would join Senator Durbin’s staff as a Legislative Assistance, where she served for fourteen years, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief of Staff.

While working for Senator Durbin, she served as Floor Director and later, Floor Counsel. With her expansive knowledge of congress and senate floor procedure, Reema would literally write the book on the subject in 2017 when she co-authored, Inside Congress: A Guide for Navigating the Politics of the House and Senate Floors.

Known for her work ethic, knowledge of the senate, and ability to work across party lines, it was also not surprising that she would serve as an advisor for the historic Supreme Court nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, helping to shepherd the nomination of the first Black woman appointed to the highest court in the nation. Her ability to work across the aisle, especially in high pressure circumstances, was once again on display.

The daughter of Palestinian immigrants from Hebron/Al-Khalil, Reema’s pride in her Arab heritage is apparent and she brings her whole life experience and perspective to her work in our nation’s capital.

In addition to her work at the White House and on the Hill, she served as a volunteer on the Biden-Harris transition team and a voter-protection counsel on various campaigns, including Obama for America.

Reema Dodin is a role model for Arab Americans who aspire to work in policy and be a part of positive change for our country at the governmental level. We look forward to seeing what Reema continues to achieve in her role at the White House and beyond.
