This is just not okay, John:
High school students had plans to put on the musical Rent: School Edition — a musical about young artists living in New York City during the AIDS epidemic. But the school administration denied their proposal for being too “controversial,” according to Central Bucks West’s drama club members.
Students are speaking out against the decision because the musical depicts LGBTQ relationships, and the students believe this initial denial is related to the wave of conservative laws banning LGBTQ+ books in schools across the country. One of the most banned books that the right-wing tries to censor is Toni Morrison’s ‘The Bluest Eye’ — a book Ashley proudly owns a well-worn copy of on her bookshelf at home.
Ashley believes every student deserves an education that celebrates inclusivity, justice, and civil rights . Chip in any amount to help elect a representative who will support our LGBTQ students today >>
