Colorado is ground zero for the GOP’s assault on our democracy.

John’s good friend and colleague in the Senate, Michael Bennet, is running for re-election here in Colorado. From delivering improvements for our infrastructure, to creating good-paying jobs and taking action on climate change, Michael is a true fighter for families across our state.

Meanwhile, Ron Hanks, one of Michael’s GOP opponents, proudly marched with insurrectionists on January 6th and vocally supports Trump’s Big Lie. And at the Colorado GOP’s state assembly this month, he secured the top spot on the primary ballot.

Unfortunately, Ron Hanks isn’t the only extreme candidate on the ballot this year. Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters, who’s already facing criminal charges for interfering with the county’s election system, won enough support to secure the top line on the GOP ballot for the secretary of state’s race.

Team, Ron Hanks and Tina Peters don’t represent the priorities of folks here in Colorado. But we must take their candidacies very seriously.

Michael Bennet won his last election by less than two points , and national Republicans have already announced their plans to target Colorado among battleground states like Arizona, Nevada, and Ohio with their record-breaking war chest.

Republicans only need to flip one seat this November to take control of the Senate, and if they do, extremists like Ron Hanks and Tina Peters will be emboldened to continue attacking our democracy.
