Dear Friend,
Last week, Texas Governor Abbott announced that the State of Texas will begin bussing migrants and asylum seekers from the southern border to DC. While being described as a "stunt," these actions are deeply inhumane and cruel, ignoring the needs and lives of the adults and children going through this experience. ?It is essential that we, as a community in the DC-area, mobilize to ensure that they are welcomed with open arms and supported as they make their way to their actual destinations.
Three ways you can support migrants:
Purchase needed supplies directly from a list of items volunteers have identified.
Send funds: Venmo @SanctuaryDMV with "Texas Solidarity" in memo.
Join as a volunteer.
The actions of Gov. Abbott illuminate the ongoing injustice and disempowerment of our immigration and detention system. While these actions allow us to welcome with open arms our neighbors, it is only a piece of humanity we can offer in a deeply inhumane system. We oppose he enforcement of borders through cages, whips, detention, wires, walls, surveillance, drones, and yes, buses.
In Solidarity,
Elizabeth Falcon
