Dear John,
Canada's population is aging: the ratio of seniors to the working age population in Canada will double from 20.3% in 2010 to 38.4% in 2040!
Yet a new Fraser Institute study out today finds that the rules around employment and retirement in Canada seem antiquated and detached from the changing nature of work, and the desire of many seniors to continue working into their golden years.
Seniors who wish to continue working after age 65 face higher effective tax rates; mandatory withdrawals of RRSPs; and a reduction of government benefits.
These barriers not only hurt the economy, but can also hinder the ability of seniors to stay active and healthy.
Check out the full study here, and be sure to share it with your friends and colleagues.
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
President
