When I’m visiting communities across the state, one issue that comes up over and over is the high cost of prescription drugs. Too often, I hear stories about folks rationing or not taking the medications they are prescribed because they can’t afford it.

It’s unacceptable that in this day in age, people are having to choose between taking their medications and putting food on the table and a roof over their heads. That’s why Congress has introduced HR 3, a plan to allow Medicare to directly negotiate with drug companies and make the results publicly available to all Americans. It also invests in innovation and creates a limit on out-of-pocket costs.

This issue is personal to me. Like so many others, I’ve watched the elders in my family struggle to afford medications. Affordable prescription drugs are a life and death issue and Congress needs to act now.
