John, I’m incredibly excited to share with you that I’m pregnant! Towqir and I, along with our family and friends, are overjoyed.

I’m so grateful for everyone who stood by us through this journey, and who I know will remain an incredible support system as our family grows.

I underwent over a year of fertility treatments, a miscarriage, and a medical abortion that saved my life. We need more people who have lived through these experiences, and who are advocating for progressive policies, to have a seat at the table in Washington.

Now, I know that becoming a working mom, one of over 24 million in this country, will only strengthen my ability to fight for the change we need.

But we cannot ignore the bias, conscious or not, that creeps into voters' minds when it comes to moms running for office.

Fathers with children at home have always been a mainstay in Congress, but today less than 6% of Congress is made up of moms with kids under the age of 18. It’s time we changed that.
