John,

Earlier this month, I proudly voted to decriminalize marijuana. It's long past time that we fix the drug policies that have caused deep racial inequities within our criminal justice system for generations.

Black Americans are nearly four times more likely than white Americans to be arrested for marijuana possession. As long as marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, the problems of over-incarceration and inequities in sentencing will continue.

That's why since Day 1, I've called for the federal legalization of marijuana and the rolling back of mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses.

I'm glad the House has acted. Now, we need to put pressure on the Senate to do its part. Will you stand with me today and tell the Senate to pass legislation that decriminalizes marijuana?

Together, we can roll back the unjust and narrow-minded policies that have contributed to so many systemic inequalities. Too much is at stake not to act.
