Dear Friend,

Did you know that scientists discovered a new species of whale in the Gulf of Mexico last year? It’s called the Rice’s Whale, and there may only be 50 of them on the planet.

Unfortunately, those whales, along with other marine wildlife, coastal communities, and our climate, are in danger because of underregulated offshore oil drilling.

Earthjustice is working urgently to stop oil and gas drilling across the country, and we need your help.

We have a special Earth Day match offer - because these fights are too important and we must act now. Between now and April 22, your gift will be matched $2-to-$1 to help us stop offshore drilling, protect imperiled wildlife, and other critical fights. Please donate today: [link removed]

We must learn from the past. Twelve years ago today, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill wreaked havoc on the people and the ecosystems of the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 people and devastating a critical marine habitat with 4.9 million barrels. This anniversary is a painful reminder that the oil industry, with the federal government’s greenlight, has treated the Gulf of Mexico as a sacrifice zone for too long.

It doesn’t have to be this way. The federal oil, gas, and coal leasing program is broken, and reforming it could help save countless species and play a crucial role in addressing climate change. Take advantage of this Earth Day match offer and triple your impact today! Take advantage of this Earth Day match offer and triple your impact today!

We recently made progress in the Gulf of Mexico when a judge ruled in our favor, tossing out the Interior Department’s decision to offer 80 million acres to the fossil fuel industry. We won't stop working to protect our coastal communities and wildlife. Help us keep up the fight.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership.

Sincerely,

Drew Caputo
