Team — from the beginning, I’ve stood alongside my House colleagues in strong support of legislation to ban members of Congress from owning or trading stocks while in office.
We’ve voted our representatives into positions of immense power and trust, hoping they’ll act with our best interests in mind. But, when they have access to highly classified information, as well as personal financial stakes in stocks, their accountability to everyday Americans is jeopardized.
Which is why I, and the majority of Americans, support a ban on Congressional stock trading. Will you sign on now and urge Congress to do what is right?
If enacted, this legislation would help regain trust in our government, repairing a relationship that has been soiled by corruption. That’s why I support this legislation, and the key areas it focuses on. Because it will:
- Ban ownership and trading of stocks by representatives' spouses and dependents
- Allow for no exception for stocks already acquired before entering Congress
- Enforce the rules and heavy fines for violations
