Hello!
This just a reminder that this Saturday April 23rd at noon is our monthly chapter General Meeting! Each month our membership comes together to discuss chapter projects, vote on new business, and more! The General Meeting is the highest decision-making body in New Orleans DSA, and all members are entitled to vote, so if you can only make one meeting a month, make it this one. Some of the items we'll be considering this month include:
- A resolution to formally begin a campaign to end Entergy's exploitation of the working people of New Orleans and to advocate for the full municipalization of city power services. You can read more about the proposed campaign in the full resolution here.
-
A resolution for New Orleans DSA to become the financial sponsor (by holding and dispersing funds) for TryStereo, a volunteer-operated, free, and mobile public health resource for people who use drugs in the greater New Orleans area. TryStereo has provided harm reduction, overdose prevention, wound care, trainings, and more to New Orleanians since 2011. You can read the proposal here.
You can see the full draft agenda for this meeting here.
To ensure all our decisions are being made democratically, our bylaws require a quorum of 10% of membership to be present for the General Meeting to hold votes. If you can't make it this Saturday, please help us meet quorum by requesting a proxy by emailing [email protected]! A proxy is a member designated to vote in your place at the meeting- when requesting a proxy, you can either name another member as your proxy, or if you don't have anybody in mind, just let us know and we can match you with someone!

New to DSA? Check out our chapter's new member resources here. If you've got any questions about how to get involved or the work our chapter is doing, give us a shout at [email protected].
Not yet a member? The most important tool that the working class has is organization. We're strong when we fight together. We have to build a durable, mass political organization to wield the kind of power we need to win real change in our society. If you aren't a dues-paying member of DSA yet, join today!
