Spring in the Arboretum Park

Arboretum in spring

It?s great to see people visiting our parks and enjoying the lovely weather. With higher footfall often comes more litter so I was very pleased to see such positive coverage about the cleanliness of the Arboretum Park in the Nottingham Post [ [link removed] ]. Thank you to our amazing cleaning crews who worked hard over the bank holiday,as they always do, to keep all our parks beautiful. And thank you to everyone who visited the Arboretum Park and disposed of their litter responsibly - it really makes a big difference.

You can find out more about our local parks and playgrounds, improvements being made, events and other news on our Facebook page Nottingham City Council - Parks and Open Spaces [ [link removed] ]

If you do come across a problem in a park or out and about such as a full litter bin, dog poo or something else, you can report it to us via www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/reportit [ [link removed] ]. We really appreciate your help.

Over 97% of city pupils get top choice of primary schools

School children

It?s great that we were able to announce yesterday, on National Offer Day, that over 97% of pupils in Nottingham received their first or second choice of primary school for September this year. This means that out of 3,224 applications, 2,989 children secured a place at their preferred school, with 158 getting their second choice. An offer has been made to every child who applied, so nobody is without a place.

I?d like to thank parents and carers for applying on-time, and also our admissions team for all their hard work. Council officers will continue to help parents and carers over the coming days with any questions they may have, or give advice on how the appeal process works where necessary. Nottingham Tennis Centre

Nottingham tennis centre

You may have seen in yesterday?s news that we are now ready to hand over Nottingham Tennis Centre to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) at the end of April. This agreement is the best way of building tennis in the city and beyond, using the strong foundations that are already in place at the centre. The LTA will build on the centre?s success, aiming to further develop it as a key grass court tournament venue (the Nottingham Open [ [link removed] ] will take place 4-12 June), and tennis training and competition base, while retaining community and public tennis facilities.

There will be immediate improvements to the outdoor hard courts, fencing and floodlights as well an upgrade of the existing air bubble covering three courts. Further development on site will include the installation of fourmore indoor courts under a new bubble with more news from the LTA to follow.

Members will have been contacted about what the handover means for their Active Nottingham contracts from May 1 and how they move into playing tennis with the LTA. You can visit the project website [ [link removed] ] for lots of helpful information and FAQs. All Active Nottingham gym and fitness members can access facilities at any of the six other citywide sites.
