| Jobs for Individuals with Disabilities |
Last Friday afternoon, I testified before the United States Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR) on my experience with section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act, a provision that expands individuals with disabilities’ access to dignified, meaningful work. I have visited about a dozen work centers in and around my district that employ people under this provision. These employees tell me that they enjoy receiving a paycheck, but more importantly, they love having a job and being with their friends. If this provision was eliminated, many of these individuals would lose their job and, sadly, be cut off from their support system and friends.
As your Representative, I will continue to fight for the rights of individuals with disabilities because they deserve a meaningful, fulfilling life, too.

While the mainstream media is preoccupied with impeachment, I am pleased to share that President Donald Trump continues to make great progress at our Southern border.
In May 2019, approximately 100,000 illegal immigrants who crossed our Southern border were released into the U.S. During this time, they were released into the United States on a system that is like being on parole. They would check in with an immigration officer, either in person or by phone, but otherwise were free to live and work in the U.S. As you can imagine, having already broken our law by illegally crossing the border, many of these people failed to show up to their immigration hearing and chose to stay in our country as fugitives.
In September 2019, this number dropped to less than 1,000. This is due to President Trump's leadership on the issue. When someone crosses our border illegally now, they are sent back to Mexico, regardless of their country of origin, to be stay until the date of their trial in the U.S. This not only decreases the burden on our border patrol agents, but it also discourages immigrants to come to our country illegally in the first place, because they know if they cross illegally they will not be released into the U.S.
In order to reinforce President Trump's actions, I believe that Congress must move past the distraction of impeachment and instead focus on important issues that affect everyday Americans, like illegal immigration. I hope that my colleagues will stand by my side and finally begin to tackle the tough issues.

This week, I was glad to celebrate National Bible Week. I believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God that contains truths that are intended to guide our lives and our country.
For generations, many people have read the Bible and other works with Biblical references, such as The New England Primer or Sermon on the Mount, to learn how to read. The Puritans encouraged America's first settlers to read the Bible, and even in the midst of the Revolutionary War and trade troubles with Britain, people found ways to access the Bible. In 1782, Congress commemorated an American Bible, reflecting how deeply individuals in early America treasured the Bible.
Furthermore, the Bible is essential to understanding the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution because our Founding Fathers were influenced by the Bible more than any other book. Many leaders throughout American history have also emphasized the importance of God and the Bible. President Abraham Lincoln was known as the greatest biblical president and President Andrew Jackson referred to the Bible as "the rock on which our Republic rests". John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States, was also the President of the American Bible Society. It is evident that the Bible uniquely shaped the founding of our country and it is my hope that we hold close the truths of the Bible today.
