7 Days. #savemelissalucio

Over fourteen years ago, Melissa was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death after her 2-year-old daughter Mariah tragically died after an accidental fall down a flight of stairs as the family was in the process of moving. Melissa asserted her innocence more than 100 times while being interrogated the night of her daughter’s death. Police continued to coercively question her for five hours until she falsely agreed to take responsibility for some of her daughter’s injuries.

At her trial, the district attorney presented Melissa’s false statement to the jury as a “confession,” and used false and misleading medical evidence to obtain a conviction and death sentence. Due to inadequate representation, Melissa did not receive a proper defense. Now, five jurors who originally voted to convict Melissa and sentence her to death, said they have grave concerns about the new evidence of her innocence and would support relief in her case.

We’re only seven days away from Melissa’s scheduled execution. We’re asking you to help save the life of an innocent person. Please, contact Gov. Abbott now and urge him to grant Melissa clemency at 956-446-2866 or by using this link.

We will not stop fighting until the State of Texas does the right thing by stopping this execution.

Thank you so much for your support,

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the organization is now an independent nonprofit. Our work is guided by science and grounded in antiracism.
