Dear Supporter,
Earth Day was created, plain and simple, to put the need for environmental protection on the front page.
Today, of course, the climate crisis leads the news every day — by way of extreme weather events, melting ice shelves, droughts, fires, and disappearing species.
That just means that this Earth Day, we must join together, and mobilize with everything we've got to turn the tide of history. We're joining our power together with coalition partners to push governments, corporations, and individuals to do the same.
Through our campaign to protect 30% of lands and waters by 2030, legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing and more, the Sierra Club is working hard to turn the tide. But to have any hope of success, we need you with us. I mean it — we can't do this without you.
Show your support with a monthly gift to help the Sierra Club advance solutions for a healthier environment and a better future for all. We need 400 people to sign up before our April 22 deadline. Join now and claim your FREE reusable eco-chic bag set!
While this past year started with the excitement of a new president with a bold climate agenda, we quickly learned that fossil fuel companies wouldn’t go quietly...that some members of Congress, beholden to those companies, would block meaningful policy changes…that loopholes in laws designed to protect us actually allow horrible pollution…and that pollution disproportionately impacts vulnerable communities.
But Supporter, all that means is we have to work harder, faster and smarter to advance the solutions we know will go a long way towards addressing the climate crisis. As I write, the Sierra Club is, with your support, doing exactly that:
-
Fighting hard to cut methane, a greenhouse gas more than 80 times as powerful as carbon dioxide pollution, from the oil and gas industry. Support the work our lawyers, organizers, activists, and lobbyists are doing to secure vital protections against climate-warming pollutants with your special Earth Day membership gift now >>
-
Pushing all our elected leaders to go bolder for systemic change on climate, care, jobs and justice — all of which are connected in their abilities to either lift up communities or leave families struggling to breathe fresh air, drink clean water, and put food on the table. Donate now while your gift can help us push Congress to pass historic climate and social justice legislation >>
-
Shutting down fossil fuel companies' efforts to exploit the public lands we all share, ravaging pristine nature and spewing toxic pollution into the air and water–disproportionately affecting Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. Make a gift to be a part of the clean energy solution that we are working for >>
And President Biden’s Bureau of Land Management just announced that oil and gas leasing will resume on public lands–making it even more important that we work to secure long-term legislative protections for public lands before fossil fuel companies are allowed to expand any further.
The next few months — before the campaign season consumes all attention — will be a critical window to get federal climate justice done, along with other policies to achieve a society that works for all. We don’t have a moment to waste — which is why your Earth Day gift is so crucial today.
Thank you in advance. When we all join together to show our shared commitment to solving the climate crisis, and bringing environmental justice to all, we create sweeping change.
Toward a brighter future,
Dan Chu
