The latest issue ([link removed]) of the Clearinghouse’s quarterly research digest ([link removed]) covers articles published from 1 January to 31 March 2022. The digest provides abstracts of articles from the peer-reviewed literature on male circumcision, with a focus on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention.

Featured Articles
* A modeling study ([link removed](22)00077-3/fulltext) that compared adding VMMC, pre-exposure prophylaxis, and a hypothetical highly effective vaccine to different levels of antiretroviral treatment (ART) coverage indicates that each prevention intervention would reduce HIV incidence beyond what would be achieved with ART scale-up alone.

* A cohort study ([link removed](21)00275-7/fulltext) in Rakai, Uganda, revealed that widespread availability and uptake of HIV combination prevention were associated with marked reductions in orphanhood among adolescents; a 10% increase in community prevalence of VMMC after ART became available was associated with reductions in orphanhood due to the death of a father or both parents.

* A modeling study ([link removed].) found that HIV incidence in South Africa declined substantially since 2000, due primarily to ART and condom promotion, with VMMC and behaviour change after HIV testing having relatively modest effects.

Other abstracts featured in the digest address the training of health care providers for task sharing in community health centres in South Africa, clinical trial results showing that infant male circumcision significantly reduces the risk of a febrile urinary tract infection in boys with posterior urethral valves, the relationship between socioeconomic status and uptake of HIV prevention, and the design of the first evaluation of integrated HIV and schistosomiasis services for fisherman in Malawi.
