I’ve officially been sanctioned by Russia.
This is the best news I’ve heard all year! It means that in Russia’s eyes, I’m one of the U.S. lawmakers making their unprovoked invasion of Ukraine more difficult.
Fantastic. I’m honored to be sanctioned by Russia.
But what effect will these sanctions have on my day-to-day life?
Can Russia threaten my property? Can they cut off access to my bank account? Seize my house? Nope. The global financial institutions are on our side, and the coalition of nations aligned against Russia’s war of choice holds the majority of the world’s power.
But the Russian sanctions against me do have one very big impact. They confirm that our strategy is working. We’re continuing to send aid and defensive weapons to Ukraine while we isolate Russia from the rest of the world. And Vladimir Putin is not happy about that.
So here’s my message to Russia: Bring on the sanctions. It will just make us more resolute in our support of the Ukrainian people and our defense of democracy.
